PANDAN, 20 Dec: A multipurpose hall that is being rebuilt in Jalan Pandan Mewah, Kg Pandan, will be named Mokhtar Dahari Community Square in appreciation of the Selangor and Malaysian football legend.

This was proposed by the Housing, Building Management and Squatters Executive Councillor, Iskandar Samad.

According to him, the Selangor State Exco meeting on the 7th of November approved the allocation under the Selangorku Grant to rebuild the existing hall.

“Next to the hall is a field which is used by the locals to play football.

“An upgrading of the field has been proposed along with the new hall which will be named Mokhtar Dahari Community Square.

“The late Mokhtar Dahari used to live and play football in Kg Pandan,” he said in a media statement.

So far, there have been no landmarks in the village to commemorate the services of the legend.

However, this proposal is subject to approval by his family.

The hall’s design proposals which have been prepared by the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) have been displayed to the residents of Kg Pandan.

MPAJ has completed the drawings and the tender documents for the hall and is ready to proceed with work.

It is estimated that the new hall will cost RM500,000 and will take 8 months to complete.

It is hoped that Mokhtar’s employers such as the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) will also contribute to the project for the square as he had brought honour to PKNS while playing football for their team.

“As an assemblyman of the area, I am of the opinion that it is time that this square is created so that the late Makhtar’s name will not be forgotten by future generations while providing adequate facilities for the people,” he said.
