CM Instructs MDKS Engineers to Identify Cause of Slanting Roof

IJOK, 4 Jan: Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim has instructed a special team of engineers from the Kuala Selangor District Council (MDKS), led by its President, Noraini Roslan, to identify the cause of roofs slanting in Taman Pancaran, Ijok.

According to Abdul Khalid, so far the situation has not been so serious and from the aspect of roof design, the construction and the quality of the roofs will be the focus in finding the cause.

“We will fix everything. The repair cost will be borne by the State Economic Planning Unit (UPEN),” he said in a press conference after visiting the scene of the incident.

The incident of the roof collapse involves 14 houses, mostly incurring damages to the ceilings.

Also visible were cracks in the wall structure, especially in bathrooms.

Meanwhile Abdul Khalid also presented special contributions to all victims worth RM500 for each home.

He explained that it is up to the residents whether or not to relocate temporarily until the situation is safe.

Resident M Kumaran said that the incident took place around 10.30 last night.

During the incident, he was informed by his father who heard collapsing noises behind the house.

“My father heard sounds similar to falling things.

“When we entered, there were signs of sand on the floor. Then we saw small chunks of rocks on the ceiling.

“We checked and asked our next door neighbour, they said there was nothing.

“Then the neighbour also said they saw sand while sweeping (the floor),” said Kumaran who has been living here for almost 20 years.
