KUALA LUMPUR, 25 JAN: The Selangor Pakatan Rakyat (PR) Government has always emulated and adopted administration policies practised during the distinguished Islamic era under Khalifah Umar Abdul Aziz.

Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim characterised Khalifah Umar as an honest, trustworthy, and public-spirited leader and Abdul Khalid has always considered the Khalifah as his idol.

For example, Abdul Khalid said, Khalifah Umar was once approached by his relative to discuss family matters while he was calculating government spending.

At that time, Khalifah Umar was willing to turn off his room lights because the discussion did not involve the government seeing that the public funded the light fuel.

“This is kind of attitude and example of a Muslim leader who practices honesty and trust while running a government that serves the people,” said Abdul Khalid.

Abul Khalid said this during his speech in front of about 200 residents during the Malidur Rasul (Propher Muhammad’s Birthday) celebrations and Dinner Banquet held at the PR Operations Room at Taman Mewah and Jujur, Bandar Tun Razak last night.

He said that he will always work towards performing his duties by putting the people first although it is often considered as ‘stubborn’ by Umno-BN leaders.

“Although I am treated as such, it is alright as long as I defend the rights of the people by taking over the water (supply) management from the Selangor Water Supply Company (Syabas – Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor).

“I will not give up because Syabas has been proven to be unfit to manage water in Selangor and they take care of their cronies more than the people,” he said.

In the meantime, Abdul Khalid said that the State Government has also implemented policies that provides many benefits to the people such as the Senior Citizen’s Scheme (SMUE – Skim Mesra Usia Emas), free water and free tuition.

“We have records that show all the policies that we have implemented specifically for the people of this state,” he said.

In addition, Abdul Khalid said that none of the Selangor Exco members own land since he was appointed in 2008, as proof that the Selangor Government always practises transparency and defends the trust given by the people.

This is different from when the previous Umno-BN government administered, where their leaders owned land by paying a cheap price for land premiums for the sake of doubling their profits.
