SHAH ALAM, 31 JAN: Anyone who falls victim to abuse, sexual harassment or other social ills can use the electronic application to seek assistance.

The web application called E-Gems will help victims and complainants contact government agencies that can provide assistance to them.

The service which was launched today by Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim is aimed at combating social ills in Selangor.

Abdul Khalid said that the system will develop components of Selangor’s community social services information system as well as to collect resident’s information.

“The system allows them to know prevention activities carried out while helping those who are trapped in unhealthy social ills to seek advice and assistance from relevant experts.

“I support this effort because we will be closer to the people and clearly, in the present age, electronic communication systems are more widely used,” he said.

He said this after launching the E-Gems Social Management System at the Silver Jubilee Auditorium at the State Secretariat Building today.

Also present was Education, Higher Education and Human Capital Development Exco, Dr Halimah Ali.

“All parties have to play a role, whether formal or informal, to ensure social ills can be controlled.

“The failure of component parties such as state government agencies, play an effective role in affecting relationship between the people and the government,” he added.
