SARATOK, 14 Jan: The people of Sarawak have been advised to choose Pakatan Rakyat (PR) to govern the country in the upcoming 13th General Elections (GE-13) so that their state can achieve the progress Selangor has.
Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said that Selangor is not only famous as a developed state, but its people also are given the opportunity to enjoy state wealth since the administration of PR.
Starting from 20 cubic metres of free water supply, Abdul Khalid said, the people of Selangor can now experience various benefits from programmes under the Merakyatkan Ekonomi Selangor (MES – Localising the Selangor Economy) agenda.
In fact, he said, the state cash reserves have increased to RM2.5 billion compared to RM400 million during the previous Selangor Umno-BN Government administration.
“Umno-BN says that Selangor will go bankrupt for using state savings reserves to provide free water and other assistance to the people.
“We have implemented it for four years now, and yet the state is not bankrupt, in fact the state revenue has continued to increase.
“If we can implement all these in Selangor, why not in Sarawak and throughout Malaysia?
“So this is the time for the people to make a change,” he said yesterday while delivering a talk at Pekan Saratok.
The talk was also attended by the Health, Plantation Workers, Poverty and Caring Government Exco, Dr Xavier Jayakumar and Krian Assemblyman, Ali Biju.
He added that GE-13 is the best time for the people to reject the Umno-BN Government and give PR a chance to take over the reins of administration by bringing about improvements.
“The people will benefit more if PR rules. We have already shown them in Selangor.
“We have spent RM600 million, but there is still a lot of state reserves. Sarawak has yet to receive such benefits,” he said.
Earlier, Abdul Khalid also gave out donations worth RM2,000 to four Suraus in the district for the implementation of any community activities there.
The four Suraus are Surau Silaturrahim, Surau Darul Iman, Surau Darul Taqwa and Surau Cahaya Islam.
