New PJ Mayor Practises Open Door Policy

PETALING JAYA, 2 Dec: Residents of Petaling Jaya will be able to centre their complaints directly to the new Mayor, Datin Paduka Alinah Ahmad, who wants to practise an open door policy.

Through this policy, Alinah, among others, will provide space of an hour every working day for residents of Petaling Jaya to meet and extend their complaints to her personally, face to face.

“Everyone can meet with me every day by making an appointment in advance.

“This is also one way to assess whether services or whatever MBPJ (Petaling Jaya City Council) is undertaking meets with the expectations of the citizens of Petaling Jaya,” Alinah, who started duties today, explained.

She will also emphasise the policy of resolving the public’s complaint within two weeks.

“I will personally hold follow-up meetings once every two weeks, thus ensuring that the problems are resolved as soon as possible, two weeks being the latest date,” stressed the First Malaysian Female Mayor.

She said this at a press conference after the Handing Over Ceremony of the Petaling Jaya Mayor Service Note this morning.

Additionally, Alinah said that she would personally ‘go down to the ground’ (turun padang) to monitor her staff to ensure that they carry out their duties and responsibilities effectively and efficiently.

“I will not let anyone know. Instead I prefer to have a ‘surprise visit’ because only then will be know whether they are working or not,” she said.

She will also pay attention to the management of MBPJ assets apart from the plans to make Petaling Jaya a world class city.

This morning, Alinah signed the Petaling Jaya Mayor Duty Note which was witnessed by the Deputy Mayor, Puasa Md Taib and in front of the MBPJ council members at Dewan Bunga Tanjung, MBPJ Headquarters.

Previously, Alinah was the Chief Executive Officer of the Selangor Housing and Property Board (LPHS) apart from serving as the Kuala Langat Chief Assistant District Officer (Land) and the Chief Assistant Secretary (Finance) of the State Secretary.
