SHAH ALAM, 11 Jan: The Selangor Pakatan Rakyat (PR) is disappointed with the poor performance of Puncak Niaga and the Selangor Water Supply Company (Syabas – Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor) of being incapable of replacing the old pump and overcoming the water problem in a short period of time.

DAP Publicity Secretary, Jenice Lee said that the Chief Executive Officers of Puncak Niaga and Syabas should resign because they are unable to overcome the water problem.

“The State Government has been urged to step in or immediately intervene in the management of Puncak Niaga and Syabas to correct the mismanagement immediately,” said Jenice.

She said this in a joint press statement with the Selangor PKR Information Chief, Suhaimi Shafiei and the Selangor PAS Information Chief, Saari Sungip.

“In 2012, auditors had advised Puncak Niaga that the 41 year old pump should be replaced with a new one or be maintained, but it was unheeded.

“How can all the pumps in Wangsa Maju break down at the same time and the company is unable to replace or maintain the pumps within 24 hours?” Jenice questioned.

She added that Syabas had not distributed water on a schedule and as a whole, with many residents not receiving water supply.

“Most of the complaints are that the water tankers arrived in the middle of the night, from 1 am – 3 am, and this disrupts people’s lives.

“In actuality, Syabas should work efficiently in developing a periodic water distribution schedule and ensuring every street, area and school receives water supply,” she said.

She said that Puncak Niaga and Syabas should have also informed regarding the progress of the pump reparations every day and to provide sufficient static water tanks in the affected areas.
