Rain Not An Obstacle for Over 5,000 at the Maulidur Rasul Procession in Selangor

SHAH ALAM, Jan 24: The procession in celebration of Maulidur Rasul in Selangor was celebrated with the participation of 118 contingents that marched despite the heavy rain this morning.

The procession which featured a variety of government agencies, higher educational institutions, and Selangor subsidiary companies was also participated by Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

Abdul Khalid, who led the procession, was seen declining an umbrella offered to him and braved the rain with 5,000 other participants.

The procession which started as early as 8.20 am began at the Shah Alam Mini Stadium and headed to the reception site at the Melawati Stadium.

The occasion, which was also graced by His Royal Highness the Sultan of Selangor, showcased various events and performances from popular artists such as Mawi and Rabbani.

At the celebration which was themed ‘Wasatiyyah (moderation), The Pillar of Muslim Unity’, His Royal Highness the Sultan of Selangor presented five Special Maulidur Rasul Awards and awarded the winner of the best marching contingent in various categories.

The recipients of the awards were, Datuk Abdul Aziz Andik Achok, who received the Umar Abdul Aziz Award, Tan Sri Datuk Ismail Adam (Khalid Al-Walid Award) and Dr Mohd Abd Wahab Yusof (Imam Al-Ghazali Award).

Also receiving awards during the ceremony were, Professor Datin Paduka Dr Zaleha Kamaruddin for the Saidatina Khadijah Award and Nawarzir Ahmad Zuri for the Saidina Ali Award.

Also present at the celebration were State Excos, Dr Yaakob Sapari, Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi, Iskandar Abdul Samad, Shah Alam MP Khalid Abdul Samad, and senior officers of the State Government.
