PETALING JAYA, 17 JAN: The exposure of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) in investigating the issue of illegal immigrants in Sabah proves that government departments and agencies are being used by BN to ensure their continuity of life in the General Elections.

PKR Deputy President, Azmin Ali, in a press conference today claimed that the efforts involves the role of key institutions under the jurisdiction of the Prime Minister such as the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the Ministry of Home Affairs (MOHA), the National Registration Department (NRD) and the Department of Immigration.

“We are looking into the statement of several witnesses, several shocks happened, names were being mentioned and this issue really does not surprise us.

“This is an organised effort which is led by the former PM and for me, he is a national traitor because he gave out identity cards to foreigners in order to maintain Umno’s political power,” Azmin stressed.

In relation to that, the former Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is urged to be solely responsible for serious issues involving the sovereignty of this country.

“This planned effort cannot, in any way, be forgiven, cannot be accepted because it gives rights to foreign nationals to determine the future of the country,” he added.

Previously, the former Chief of the Tamparuli National Registration Department (NRD) , Yakup Damsah claimed that he and several people stayed at the home of Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Shamsuddin, who was the political secretary of Dr Mahathir at that time, to issue blue identity cards to foreigners.

Yesterday, another witness linked two former right-hand men of Mahathir’s attributed to allegedly granting citizenship to become voters in Sabah when giving evidence to RCI.

Former Director of the Sabah Registration Department, Ramli Kamaruddin also claimed to have received orders from the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs of the time, Tan Sri Megat Junid Megat Ayub to issue temporary identity card receipts (NRD receipts) with an expiry date to foreigners, purely for the purpose of the elections.
