SHAH ALAM, 16 JAN: Youth Solidarity Malaysia (SAMM) has invited the President of 1 Malaysia Women’s Voice (SW1M – Suara Wanita Satu Malaysia), Sharifah Zohra Jabeen and student of University Utara Malaysia (UUM), KS Bawani to a forum entitled ‘Academic Freedom and Rights’.
The forum which will be held on 22 January, 8.30 pm will be situated at the Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall, Kuala Lumpur.
In addition, also invited as a panelist at the forum is a lecturer from the Faculty of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), Dr Maszlee Malik.
According to the SAMM director of student segmentation, Wan Noor Farel Azli Wan Haron, invitations to the three panelists have already been sent.
“While not agreeing with Zohara’s thinking of chasing away people who do not agree with the ruling BN regime to leave the country, SAMM feels that Zohra should be given the space to appear in a sane and orderly fashion.
“(This is) to express what really happened and to give her the space to express her opinions.
“This negative situation should be taken advantage of by the young people to make it a positive clash of opinions based on facts and knowledge,” said Wan Noor Farel Azli in a statement today.
Sharifah Zohra was terribly criticised when she tried to prevent Bawani from speaking at a forum in UUM entitled “Seiringkah Mahasiswa dan Politik?” (Are Students And Politics in Tandem?).
At the forum, Sharifah Zohra tried to force Bawani to stop arguing when Bawani mentioned about the BERSIH 2.0 movement and the issue of free education.
When Bawani did not heed her, Sharifah Zohra ordered Bawani to stop arguing by saying “listen.., listen.., listen…” almost ten times.
Sharifah Zohra also reached for the microphone and took it away from Bawani who was unable to finish her argument.
Sharifah Zohra also said in the same forum that animals are the same as humans, they also have problems.
The incident attracted the attention of internet surfers in and out of the country calling for various attacks against Sharifah Zohra.
It was reported that the Facebook page belonging to Sharifah Zohra was bombarded with various criticisms saying that she does not dare to debate openly and healthily.
