Selangor Launches Integrity Month To Tackle Corruption and Bureaucracy

SHAH ALAM, 15 Jan: The process of good governance practised by the Selangor State Government is capable of developing the state further if public administration adopts the principle of integrity, says Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

He said this while officiating the State Level Integrity Month and the Launch of the State Secretariat Office Strategic Plan.

Regarding the matter, Abdul Khalid the major areas that are the focus of integrity, among which is to reduce corruption which is proved to be a form of failure in public and private sectors.

He explained that corruption can suppress the less fortunate in turn resulting in the creation of administrative bureaucracy.

“This principle should be adopted by more than 7,000 civil servants in this state. This is because all procedural flaws such as delay in processing an application as a result of bureaucracy can encourage corruption,” he said.

In relation to that, a strict disciplinary action will be taken against officers found to be involved in corruption as well as abuse of power.

He said, for serious cases, the action of withholding pay, demotion or other necessary actions will be taken.

“This shows the government’s seriousness in tackling behaviours lacking in integrity among public servants. The action will be taken because it is not enough to impose just administrative warning.

“In the meantime, a reward system must be implemented,” he said.

Apart from that, six core values are outlines in the Strategic Plan of the State Government Secretariat Office (SUK) in meeting the development aim for Selangor 2025 for year 2013 till 2017.

Among them are coordination straightening and collaboration between the public and private sectors; efficient and effective financial and project management; development of international standard human capital; empowering and strengthening ICT-based service delivery system; municipal services and systematic infrastructure; and monitoring of risk management.
