SHAH ALAM, 12 FEB: The Malay Empowerment Core (Teras) is rueful of the statement made by the former National Police Inspector General, Tan Sri Musa Hassan who speculated that chaos like that of the Arab Spring will happen when certain quarters loses in the elections.

Teras President, Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid said that Musa should be more concerned that our country’s national security is administered by corrupt leaders who are involved in crime, abuse of power, protecting criminals and abusing national finances.

“We regret that a statement such as this was issued by someone who should be more aware of implication of such an irresponsible and harmful speculation.

“In fact, this is a sign that the country enables the authorities to act on a merely a speculative statement,” said Azmi in a media statement.

He said that the Director of Homeland Security and Public Order, Datuk Seri Salleh Mat Rasid issued a statement that Arab Spring will not happen in this country because he is of the opinion that the people have become more mature.

“It is clear that Musa, as a person who has long known about homeland security, is only making a shallow speculation.

“The fact of what is happening is that however much opposition parties are oppressed and treated in the most undemocratic manner during elections, such tension has yet to arise,” he said.
