KLANG, 15 FEB: Klang residents, especially those who live in Kampung Sungai Delek and Kampung Sungai Sireh here will be enjoying yet another infrastructural facility provided by the State Government.

At the cost of RM3 million, the bridge which is being built over the Telok Gadung river in Jalan Sri Perantau Kampung Delek is expected to be competed at latest within two months.

Selat Klang Assemblyman, Dr Halimah Ali during a visit to the project site this morning said that the State Government’s efforts are in line with the Pakatan Government policies of being devoted for the interests of the people.

“Firstly, with this bridge, it will facilitate the surrounding residents when they have to take remains from across the road to the cemetery, which before this, the residents had to use a longer route due to the absence of the bridge.

“Apart from that, it will also reduce traffic congestion, especially during peak hours because the previous route is narrow and heavy vehicles cannot pass it,” said Dr Halimah who is also the Education, Higher Education and Human Capital Development Exco.

Prior to this, the people who mostly work near the port have to use a sluice bridge owned by the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) which was only able to handle one vehicle at a time.

“Now, residents will be able to enjoy the convenience of a wider bridge which will definitely benefit them in terms of comfort, time savings etc,” said Dr Halimah.

She personally officiated the Groundbreaking ceremony of the project which was held in December 2011.

The project which started early January last year covers the construction of the bridge with a width of 10.5 metres, and a length of 23 metres, and is built according to the R3 standard of having a two-way route.

The project also involves the provision of a new road to connect the routes from Kampung Sungai Sireh to the main road.
