PETALING JAYA, 1 FEB: PKR Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and PKR President, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail today received a visit from the Hamas Political Bureau Chief, Dr Walid Alamoudi and Social Welfare Minister Dr Ahmad Alkurd, during their working visit to Malaysia.

The nearly one-hour meeting had the leaders discussing a number of matters related to the current situation in Gaza and Palestine, apart from strengthening ties between the two Muslim leaders.

They also discussed reconstruction assistance for the Nur Muhammadi Mosque in Gaza which will be able to accommodate 4,000 worshipers.

“We condemn violence, assault and bombing by Israel towards neighbouring Arab countries, including Syria.

“I believe that the new Pakatan Rakyat government will continue to express their strong support (for the Liberation of Palestine).

“I see this (attack) as a cruel plan by Israel. Unfortunately, they carry it out without hindrance due to the failure of the international community, including the United States, in stopping (the attacks by) Israel,” he continued.

Apart from Dr Walid Alamoudi, also present were representatives from Tajammu Almuassasah Alkhairiyah, Abdul Nabi Al-Rantisi, Dr Nasim Sh Yasin as well as Ambassador Aqsa Shariff, Afdlin Shauki.

In the meantime, Dr Walid Alamoudi praised Anwar as a prominent Muslim figure in political and Islamic affairs despite not getting media coverage.

“Datuk Seri Anwar has been closely monitoring the Gaza reconstruction programme for a long time apart from sending his representatives there.

“Thank you for your help,” he said.

Meanwhile, Aqsa Shariff informed that the USD 700,000 (RM2.14 million) managed to be raised for the construction of Nur Muhammadi Mosque.
