PKNS Builds Residential Complex For Industry Workers

KELANA JAYA, 26 FEB: A more comfortable and organised Integrated Industrial Workers Residential Complex to facilitate industry workers will be erected in SS 8/6 with an area of 6.08 acres.

The first block built by the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) is set to be completed by December 2015 and will be able to accommodate 10,000 industry workers.

PKNS General Manager, Othman Omar said that this project will meet the need of the ‘Workers Accommodation : Process and Standards’ set by the International Finance Corporation and the European Bank for reconstruction and development.

“This integrated residential project is the only project of its kind in Selangor.

“This project will also facilitate workers by providing covered walkways and pedestrian bridges as well as an additional 1,500 parking facilities,” Othman said.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said that Selangor is the best state for investment in the country especially since 2008, the amount invested in Selangor has reached RM50 billion.

He said that the construction of this hostel will boost investor confidence to continue to expand their businesses in this state.

“The Sungai Way area has to be redeveloped to enhance economic growth in Petaling Jaya.

“Development efforts in Petaling Jaya needs to be intensified and positive efforts have to be accelerated,” said Abdul Khalid.

At the programme, Abdul Khalid officiated the Datum In-City Project Groundbreaking which was also attended by the Investment, Industry and Trade Exco, Teresa Kok Suh Him.

The Workers Residential Complex which will house 432 residential units in three designs, each measuring 475 square feet, 865 square feet and 971 square feet will house workers from Western Digital Sdn Bhd.

It will also be used by industrial workers within the vicinity and a green concept design will be applied through the provision of landscaped gardens on the roof and podium of every floor as well as a strategic transportation hub.

Apart from that, among other facilities provided are mini marts, food stalls and a surau. The residential complex will also have a security control which is a smart joint partnership project between the State Government PKNS and Western Digital.
