SUNGAI BESAR, 23 FEB: The Selangor State Government has thoroughly prepared to face any possibilities of sabotage to the water supply of the state.

Selangor Exco, Dr Yunus Hairi said that allegations that there will be water disruptions after the dissolving of the Selangor State Assembly and Parliament when Umno-BN uses the water issue as a political campaign in the 13 General Elections (GE-13) to snatch Selangor.

“The State Government is ready with plans such as preparing water tankers which will be implemented with cooperation from local authorities,” said Dr Yunus.

He said this during an explanation of the water issue which was held here at Dewan Seri Bernam.

Dr Yunus added that the provision of free water for these five years under the administration of Pakatan Rakyat in Selangor proves that the coalition safeguards the welfare of the people.

He said that previously, Umno-BN has claimed that the state government will go bankrupt in the next three months after the free water programme begun.

However, as a result of efficient financial administration prudently practiced by the State Government, Selangor reserves continued to increase up to RM2.5 billion.

“A total of 600 million cubic metres of water has been wasted following the problem of water loss which was allegedly poorly handled by the Selangor Water Supply Company (Syabas – Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor),” he said.

Meanwhile, the former IIUM Professor of Law, Dr Aziz Bari said that support towards the pakatan Rakyat should continue in efforts to ensure that the free water policy will continue.

“The water restructuring issue in Selangor will be easily solved with the people giving mandate to Pakatan Rakyat at the federal level during the 13th General Elections,” he said.

Approximately 500 people attended the water issue information session which was also attended by the Sungai Panjang constituency Coordinator, Fadzlin Taslimin.
