SHAH ALAM, 2 FEB: Not practicing a capitalist system and having a transparent leadership in the country is actually capable of realising free education in this country.

This was stated by University of Selangor (Unisel) Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr Anuar Ahmad in an exclusive interview with TV Selangor yesterday.

Therefore, to make free education a reality, Unisel will seriously discuss this issue in the International Educational Convention (KAP 2013) which will be held on February 4 and 5.

The convention that will take place at the Unisel Pro-Chancellor Hall in Section 7, Shah Alam will be officiated by Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

KAP 2013 will feature academics like Dr. Amal Fathullah Zarkarsyi from Pesantren Darul Salam, Gontor, Indonesia and Prof Dr Ameenah Gurib-Faki from the University of Mauritius.

Apart from that, policy makers and political thinkers such as Selangor Economic Advisor, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, PAS President, Tuan Guru Abdul Hadi Awang and PKR Strategy Director, Rafizi Ramli, will also grace the event.

Elaborating regarding the country’s preparedness to implement free education, Anuar believes that it can be done, as it is being done in Mauritius.

“Looking at the gross national income, Malaysia is in quite a good state compared to other poor countries such as Mauritius, where the gross national income is lower than Malaysia.

“However, they (Mauritius) is able to provide free education, even transportation to school for children is funded by the government,” he said.
