KUALA SELANGOR, 2 FEB: The Selangor State Government had sent another letter to the Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water, Datuk Sri Peter Chin Fah Kui, to explain the process of taking over operations from the Selangor Water Supply Company (Syabas – Syarikat Bekalan Air Syabas Sdn Bhd).

According to Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, a second letter was sent last Friday because Peter Chin failed to understand the acquisition process which was explained in the first letter.

“Operations takeover of a company does not mean the company is being taken over, but it involves the shareholders.

“For Syabas’ operations, the shareholders are Puncak Niaga, Kumpulan Darul Ehsan Bhd and also the Ministry of Finance Malaysia, who holds the golden share.

“Therefore, it is not the officials that I have to discuss with but the stakeholders, including Peter Chin, but he said to go see someone else,” he said.

According to Abdul Khalid, the golden share held by the Ministry of Finance enables the Ministry of Finance the authority to refuse any decisions.

Previously, Peter Chin said in a statement that the Selangor Government under the leadership of Pakatan Rakyat, insists on taking over the water concessionaire, and that they should hold talks with Syabas and the acquisition can only be implemented if Syabas agrees.
