KUALA LUMPUR, 19 Mar: The Umno-BN Federal Government should provide immediate clarification regarding the international agency’s investigation on the Sarawak Chief Minister, Tan Sri Taib Mahmud, who allegedly has raised billions in funds abroad.
Opposition Leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that as a responsible government, Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak should give an explanation to the public.
“The video disclosure of the international agency’s investigation only strengthens our argument all this while on the amount and funds collected by Taib Mahmud.
“If Najib is a competent leader, it would be impossible for him to remain silent, he hast to respond and (tell the public) what measures will be taken,” he said in a press conference here today.
Anwar commented on the matter after a video exposure was made by an international NGO, Global Witness, about the investigation against Taib Mahmud who allegedly has gathered a large amount of property abroad.
Member of Parliament and Leader of the Opposition, Lim Kit Siang, who was also present said that what happened gives the impression that the Sarawak Chief Minister is more powerful than the Prime Minister.
“Previously, he promised a new Chief Minister for Sarawak but it was not fulfilled,” he said.
