KUALA LUMPUR, 17 Mar: The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) have been urged to take action against the parking fee collectors at the Giant supermarket in Taman Connought, Cheras, who have allegedly been carrying out the illegal activity over the past three years.

Bandar Tun Razak Member of Parliament, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said that he has received many complaints from the public who are outraged and are dissatisfied with the actions of several individuals who collect parking fees to enter the supermarket.

According to Abdul Khalid, these individuals have been deliberately taking advantage of the public who wish to visit the supermarket and they have allegedly threatened to do something to the vehicles of those who refused to pay them.

“Mr Chin (Bandar Tun Razak MP officer) said that there have been people who have complained, so he is sometimes afraid to not pay.

“Because if we do not pay, there is fear that they might scratch the car, or someone would stop to ask, therefore he is in a state of unrest.

“As time passes, less people come here to carry out business, because they think that they have to pay at this place (for parking).

“Therefore, there are other places, other supermarkets, that a fee is not required, (parking facilities are) free,” he said in a press statement at the said supermarket today.

Investigations at the Taman Connought Giant parking bays found a group of individuals who have set up camp at the entrance of the supermarket parking area.

The action makes the vehicle passage narrower by placing barricades made from plastic.

A teenager was seen collecting RM1 from motorists who wish to visit the supermarket.

Meanwhile, Abdul Khalid also suggested for the authorities of the Giant supermarket and traders here to file a report to DBKL so that this matter will be resolved as quickly as possible.

“I understand that the parking places here are free of charge. That is why I want to emphasize that those who park here do not have to pay parking fees,” he added.

At a different event, Abdul Khalid, who is also the Selangor Chief Minister, managed to attend a wedding ceremony at Taman Desa Cheras between Fazly Abdullah Lutfi and his partner Nurul Ezaika Ayob.
