MERU, 30 Apr: The incumbent and candidate for the Meru constituency, Dr Rani Osman is confident that the ‘take it to heart’ (ambil hati) approach used in the 13th General Election (GE-13) this time can win him the constituency seat again.

He said that the approach of always going down to the ground (turun padang) in all areas regardless of race would satisfy the people with his responsibility and leadership as an Assemblyman.

“If we want to win to defend the people, we must always go to the ground. We cannot depend on PAS to win.

“We must show our determination to help the people. If not, do not expect the people to vote us,” he said when met at the Chinese Market in Jalan Kedah recently.

He added that his machinery works to meet with the people has been long done.

“Our works have long been done before the dissolution of Parliament. We have been doing this since 2008.

“I cannot concentrate in going house-to-house to give our ‘candy’, instead I go to the ground to help the people in terms of health, to hear their problems and to visit those who are sick,” he said.

In the meantime, Dr Rani was also satisfied that the support from the Chinese community towards him has increased compared to the 2008 election.

“It is an atmosphere I have never seen in the 2008 campaign, where the Chinese community give their support to Pakatan Rakyat (PR).

“Wherever we go, they express their full support towards us. Previously it was difficult to gather them to listen to a ceramah (talk), this time they stay till the end,” he said.

In Dr Rani’s working visit to the Chinese markets in the constituency, most of the traders and visitors knew who he was and expressed their full support for him. He was accompanied by the Pakatan Rakyat candidate for Kampar Parliament, G Manivanan Govindasamy.

In fact, it is understood that some traders in the markets have been rejecting leaflets given by Umno-BN candidates.
