SHAH ALAM, 18 Apr: Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s statement saying that Pakatan Rakyat’s (PR) win in the 13th General Election (GE-13) will only lead to national bankruptcy and that the country will be in chaos is irresponsible and embarrassing.

Najib, who is also BN’s Chairman, during an interview with Bloomberg last night, repeatedly threatened adverse effects of economic stability and peace in the country should PR manage to conquer Putrajaya.

In response to the allegations, Opposition Leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that as the interim Prime Minister, Najib has no right and should not have issued such statements.

“We believe that the voice of change felt now is a sign that the people are aware and want a new Malaysia, which will only be done through the ballot box in accordance with the principles of constitutional democracy.

“So, Najib’s attempt to link this process with the ‘Arab Spring’ or any revolutionary movement to overthrow the government is clearly deviating and to maliciously mislead the people,” said Anwar in a press statement.

Elaborating, he said that Malaysia’s economic landscape is able to absorb any economic shocks or short term finances that may occur due to the change of government.

In relation to that, Anwar assured that if the Federal Government is newly formed, it will go through a smooth transition whit minimal disruption, thus restoring the confidence to the people and investors.

“We will ensure clear and consistent implementation of policies and we will determine the priority of policy initiatives for the short, medium, and long term to liberalise Malaysia’s economy as a competitive nation.

“We will continue to defend the rights and interests of the poor, marginalised and less fortunate as well as fight corruption and capitalism and all forms of power abuse,” added the PKR De Facto Leader.
