SHAH ALAM, 23 Apr: It is not that Umno has not served, however now they are weak, said former Chief Minister of Selangor, Tan Sri Muhammad Muhd Taib (better known as Mat Taib).

Therefore, for the rebirth of a better Malaysia, Mat Taib feels that it is time that he voiced his support for Pakatan Rakyat (PR) to form a new Federal Government.

Having served for 11 years as Chief Minister, Mat Taib expressed that the PAS, PKR and DAP coalition is capable of giving a real sense to the meaning of development, which has long been thirsted by the people.

“I think this is an effort that young people can continue and improve previous BN efforts.

“It is not that Umno has not served, but they are currently weak, probably because they are too old and have lost concentration to take us to a higher level.

“Therefore, we need to have a change and I am confident that this task can be carried out by PAS, PKR and DAP,” he said in front of more than a thousand attendees, here at the Independence Square last night.

He also is of the opinion that PAS’ move of placing its candidates in major cities in the country is a wise plan in strengthening the position of Islam.

“PAS placed their leaders in Shah Alam, Putrajaya, at Pulai and several other cities.

“If seen, Prophet Muhammad also chose cities such as Medina and Mecca to expand the teachings of Islam,” said Mat Taib who will be joining the PR campaign machinery throughout Selangor.

Yesterday, the former Umno Vice-President submitted his PAS lifetime membership form to PAS President, Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang at the PAS headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.

He decided to join PAS officially two days after the nomination day for the 13th General Election (GE-13) to avoid accusations that he had joined PAS just to be nominated.
