SHAH ALAM, 26 Apr: The issue of the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) field in Kelana Jaya that is to be developed into a commercial project last year does not have a significant impact on PKR candidate for the Seri Setia State Legislative Assembly (DUN) seat, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.

This is because Nik Nazmi is among the individuals who played a key role in objecting the project bringing about the project’s cancellation.

“This issue is close to the hearts of the residents of Kelana Jaya.

“I believe that the residents in Kelana Jaya know that I am with them, together with the Save the People’s Field Committee, from the early stages, bringing it to the Assembly (Selangor State), right up to the Selangor Select Committee on Competency, Accountability and Transparency (Selcat).

“I was with the committee in bringing (the field issue) to the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) Appeal Board and finally, PKNS recently withdrew their appeal,” said Nik Nazmi after meeting with voters at Taman Ladang Glenmarie.

Nik Nazmi hopes that PKNS will not make a new appeal thus ending the controversy haunting the residents of Kelana Jaya.

Nik Nazmi on his mission to defend the DUN seat which he won in 2008 hopes that the voters of Seri Setia can assess his performance as a representative of the people during his last term.

“Back then, people did not know me, maybe they voted PKR because they were angry with BN, but now, it is much easier because they know me and I am confident that they have seen the work I have done here,” said Nik Nazmi.

At the meet-the-voters programme last night at Taman Ladang Glenmarie, many voters who were met admitted that they know Nik Nazmi and are ready to help PR defend Selangor this winning at the federal level.

“YB do not worry, in my home alone there is a ‘guarantee’ of four votes for YB,” said Velu Subramaniam, 59, a resident at the Taman where 90 percent of residents are of the Indian community.

In addition, a teacher who wanted to remain anonymous without hesitating stated willingness of being with PR in bringing about change to become a government with higher integrity.

For the record, Nik Nazmi is one of the young candidates featured by PKR for the GE-12 in 2008.

Then aged 26, he created his own history when he successfully defeated the BN incumbent, Serpah Noli Hussin with a majority of 2,863 votes.
