BESTARI JAYA, 8 Apr: Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim stated that the previous Umno-BN Government practiced administration secrecy compared with the current Pakatan Rakyat (PR) government.
According to Abdul Khalid, the granting of land titled under the previous Umno-BN Government was not displayed to the public and the people did not know who received it.
“Previously, what we do is considered a secret, which is why it is very difficult for people to know the will of the government.
“For example, if we agree to give land to the people of this area, their names cannot be published, it is hard for us to ensure if we are right or wrong.
“But because of the concept of transparency which we (PR) practice, we can put up their names at community halls for the knowledge of the whole village and they can state if our efforts are good of not,” he said.
Abdul Khalid said this when he was asked by reporters to comment on the most challenging task during the five years of his administration.
On the same issue, Abdul Khalid said that the Umno-BN government prefers to award contracts through direct negotiation compared to the open tender system that he practices.
Abdul Khalid said that initially he faced difficulty in implementing the open tender policy because direct negotiation has been used for a long time by Umno-BN. In fact, at first he faced difficulty because many friends wanted the Umno-BN policy to be continued.
“But I told them no. Finally, they saw that my way was reasonable and now they can use the efforts we have undertaken as a campaign, PR is not corrupt and does not abuse power,” he added.
