Unisel Study Predicts Pakatan Will Remain Administering Selangor

PETALING JAYA, 30 Apr: A study conducted by the University of Selangor (Unisel) found that 61.4 percent of more than 1,000 people surveyed in Selangor predict that Pakatan Rakyat will remain administering the State Government after the 13th General Election (GE-13).

Meanwhile, a study involving 1,015 respondents of various ages, educational background and jobs found 38.6 percent who predict that BN will win and administer the Selangor Government.

The study also found 50.6 percent who expect Pakatan to win and administer Putrajaya. Meanwhile, 49.4 percent of respondents believe that BN will form the Federal Government.

“The Study on the Impacts of Government Programmes on Voting Patterns in Selangor for GE-13” by Unisel was made from 1 February to 31 March.

Dr Muhammad Shamshinor Abdul Azzis from the Faculty of Education and Social Science of UNISEL said that the study was focused on discussing political developments in Malaysia apart from understanding the competition in the GE13.

The study found that workers from the private sectors expect PR to continue to administer Selangor (64.2 percent) as well as the Federal Government (53.8 percent) compared to BN (35.8 percent and 46.2 percent).

Civil servants also expect Pakatan to continue to administer Selangor with 57.6 percent compared to 42.4 percent for BN.

This is in contrast for the Federal level where 56.2 percent of respondents who work in the Government expect BN to administer the country compared with Pakatan (42.8).

The study also revealed that voters aged 21 to 30 and 31 to 40 years expect Pakatan to administer at Selangor level at 60.5 percent and 65.4 percent compared to BN (39.5 and 34.6 percent).

The same group gave similar responses for the administration at Federal and Selangor level with PR (51.4 and 55.2 percent) beating BN (48.6 percent and 44.8 percent).

The respondents who have graduated with a diplomas and degrees (66.9 percent) expect Pakatan to capture Selangor and the Federal Government (54.1 percent).

It is different with Masters and PhD holders where they expect Pakatan to continue administering Selangor but 55.2 percent expect BN to administer the Federal Government.
