118 Indian NGOs in Selangor Hope Dr Xavier Will Remain as Exco

SHAH ALAM, 15 May: 113 non-government organisations (NGOs) representing the Indian community in Selangor hopes that the Seri Andalas Assemblyman, Dr Xavier Jayakumar will be re-elected as a State Government Executive Councillor (Exco).

The 118 NGOs include the Malaysian Coalition of Indian NGOs, the Tamil Foundation Malaysia, Child Information Learning and Development Centre (CHILD), the Education Welfare Research Foundation (EWRF) and the Selangor Action Team.

The call was made following the successful performance shown by Dr Xavier in the five years of leading the State Health, Plantation Workers, Poverty and Caring Government Exco previously.

According to the Chairman of the Midland Tamil Vernacular Primary School (SRJKT) Board, K Uthayasoorianee, among the achievements of DR Xavier is to improve facilities and learning atmosphere of Tamil schools and to improve the lives of the Indian community in estates across Selangor.

“Dr Xavier managed to ensure that the SRJKT throughout Selangor received financial assistance from the State Government,” said K Uthayasoorianee in a press conference here at the Midland Convention Centre.

In addition, The Secretary of the Malaysian Coalition of Indian NGOs, Gunaraj George hoped that DAP will nominate another candidate from the Indian community as an Exco member this making it two Excos in total.

However, according to Gunaraj, he will respect any decision made by DAP Selangor.

In the recent 13th General Election held on 5 May, Selangor PR managed to form the state government again after winning a two-thirds majority in the state.

Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, who was sworn in as the Selangor Chief Minister at the Alam Shah Palace in Klang, said that the Exco selection process in underway and will be announced next week after getting consent from DYMM the Sultan of Selangor.
