Do Not Forget Umno-BN Cancelled Assistance to People’s Religious Schools

PORT KLANG, May 1: The Malay community in Selangor is reminded to not forget that Umno-BN is responsible for cancelling assistance to People’s Religious Schools (SAR).

Thus, Malay voters are reminded to not vote for Umno-BN in the 13th General Election (GE-13) this Sunday, suggested the Klang PAS President, Ismail Arsat.

“Over 10 years ago, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is the one who pulled provisions to SAR.

“It was not DAP, not PR, and not the current PR State Government that withdrew this assistance, but Umno,” he said in front of about 300 people at the Pakatan Rakyat ceramah (talks) at Kampung Hamid Tuah here in Telok Gong.

After the Selangor PR took over the state administration in 2008 till now, the State Government has channelled RM32.5 million worth of assistance to SAR throughout Selangor.

This provision does not include other provisions to other Muslim religious institutions in Selangor.

The State Government also raised allowance of teachers of religious schools twice, from RM738.30 during BN’s time to RM1,000 in 2008 and followed by a second increase to RM1,300 in 2012.

Also for the Penang PR Government under the Chief Minister, Lim Guan Eng, provisions to uphold Islam in Penang was added from RM25.7 million under the BN administration to RM33.2 million in 2009, RM38.9 million in 2010, RM45.7 million (2011) and RM64.03 million in 2012.

Since 2008, Guan Eng who was defamed as being anti-Islam also allocated RM305,000 as a contribution and recognition to Al-Huffaz in Penang.
