Explosion at PKR HQ, No Injuries

PETALING JAYA, 4 May: A small explosion took place near the People’s Justice Party (PKR) headquarters here at Merchant Square last night.

The explosion which occurred at around 9.35pm was caused by explosives place near the low voltage distribution boards (LVDB) owned by Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB), about 50 meters from the party headquarters.

A PKR staff told TVSelangor, not long after the incident, a fire truck and a group of policemen was seen to be investigating around the area to detect bomb fragments.

In addition to several members of the forensic unit, the police also used the Detector Dog Unit to find remnants of explosives and other evidence around the scene.

According to the Petaling Jaya District Police Chief, ACP Arjunaidi Mohamed, initial investigations revealed that the explosion was similar to an explosion in Penang which was carried out to raise public fear as the 13th General Election will be held this Sunday.

Arjunaidi also said that the homemade bomb was made by someone with knowledge of making homemade bombs.

“The material used is a small explosive device and we also found debris from fireworks. He knows how to make explosives, but the materials are just basic materials,” he told the media.

Apart from debris from fireworks, the police also found cellphone fragments, batteries, spanner and some other equipment at the site.

This case will be investigated under the Explosive Act 1957 (Amendment 1991) which carries a sentence of five years in prison or a fine of RM10,000 or both.
