SHAH ALAM, 22 May: The new Inspector General of Police, Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar has been urged to devote his duty to ensure that the country, tourists and investors are safe from crime.

DAP Advisor, Lim Kit Siang said that the action of two police officers who questioned DAP founder, Dr Chen Man Hin for an hour and 15 minutes under Section 112 of the Criminal Procedure Code with baseless accusations is a waste of time.

He said that Dr Chen was investigated following allegations that he used the term ‘Malaysian Spring’ in his private email last year which is linked to a conspiracy for terrorism and to overthrow the legitimate government.

“This move is a waste of time to the Police who should be ensuring that the country is free from crime,” said Kit Siang in a media statement.

He added that a burglary happened at the home of a sibling of the Deputy Prime Minister in Petaling Jaya and also to the sibling of the Inspector General of the Police in Mantin which shows that the crime situation in the country is alarming.

“Such irresponsible occurrences happen when the police waste time and resources by focusing on politically related issues,” said Lim.

Home Minister, Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi could clearly boast that the police investigation against Dr Chen is evidence of how serious he is at serving as the Home Minister.

“He is very wrong because it only proves that Malaysia has got the wrong person to be the Home MInister who does not know what his priorities should be,” he said.
