Some EC Officials Counted Early Votes “On the Quiet”

PETALING JAYA, 29 May: Today, Pakatan Rakyat revealed more evidence that there were discrepancies in the early voting process which could have distorted the 13th General Election (GE-13) results.

The evidence is in the police report lodged by PKR candidate agents, said PKR Strategy Director, Rafizi Ramli.

The first report was lodged in Malacca on the early voting at the Machap constituency, while the second was lodged in Perak regarding the postal voting in Pengkalan Hulu.

In the first police report, Abu Hussin Tamby, an agent for PKR Assemblyman candidate for Macap, claimed to have seen Election Commission (EC) officers open and count the ballots from the early voting ballot boxes which were stored at the Alor Gagah District Police Headquarters.

The incident happened when Abu Hussin was accompanying the EC officials who took the early voting ballot boxes to be kept at the police station.

“I saw a group of EC officers, about seven to eight of them, sitting and counting ballots next to lock-up where we kept the early voting ballot boxes.

“After escorting to store the early voting ballot boxes in the lock-up, I managed to see personnel wearing the EC uniform counting the ballots,” he said in the police report.

Previously, it was reported that early votes and postal votes would only be counted on the polling day, May 5. Early votes and postal votes were done five days before the date.

Meanwhile in the second incident, Jauneh Otoh, agent for PKR candidate for the Pekan Hulu constituency, lodged a police report following the loss of an early voting ballot box for Camp 18 of the Public Operations Force (PGA) at Pengkalan Hulu which did not arrive as scheduled.

The suspicious incident resulted in the PKR agents demanding for the ballot boxes to be exempted from the counting and it was agreed by EC officials.

PKR was also informed that the Commanding General of Camp 18 of the Pengkalan Hulu PGA lodged a police report on 9 May 2013 at the Pengkalan Hulu Police Station and claimed that the missing ballot boxes were found.

Rafizi explained that the two actual happenings reflects how loose the control, integrity and supervision of the ballot boxes were that it could have so easily disappeared and opened.

“The result of the postal and early voting ballot boxes throughout the country raised suspicions when Pakatan Rakyat candidates received 10 to 15 percent of the votes.

“This is far lower than the level of support in the GE-12, averaging around 30 percent,” added Rafizi.
