Nurul Izzah: Prime Minister Should Comment on Toll Hike

SHAH ALAM, 18 Dec: Today, Nurul Izzah Anwar urged the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, to immediately issue a statement regarding the increase in toll rates to allay the people’s fears.

The PKR Vice-President said that the Prime Minister’s silence only adds to the people’s annoyance, in addition to various news regarding the toll increase over the past few days.

“I urge for the Prime Minister to issue an immediate response regarding the increase in toll rates.

“In my opinion, this broken promise will burden the people. That is why I am very disappointed with the BN government’s focus in carving a dim future for Malaysia. So, the Prime Minister should issue a statement to calm the hearts of the people,” said Nurul Izzah, quoted from Sinar Harian Online today.

Previously, the PKR Strategy Director, Rafizi Ramli, said that the Federal Government has the full authority and influence to make the decision to not raise toll rates because highway concessionaires are subsidiary companies owned by the government.

She said that allegations stating that the toll hike is inevitable are not true because the Federal Government has the power to control the rate.

The increase in toll rates is expected to be between 30 cents to RM1 but the distance has not been specified.

It is understood, there were 13 highway involved in the revision of the toll rates.
