People from all walks of life celebrate Selangor Christmas 2013

PETALING JAYA, 16 Dec: The Christmas Day Celebration 2013 organised by the Selangor State Government last night at Citta Mall, Ara Damansara, received encouraging response with people from all walks of life coming together to celebrate.

About 3,000 people, including Malays, Chinese and Indians, came to celebrate the biggest celebration of the Christian community which will be celebrated in 2 December.

The annual event was attended by the Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, the Selangor State Assembly (DNS) Speaker, Hannah Yeoh, the Executive Councillor in charge of Consumer Affairs and Environment, Elizabeth Wong, as well as Parliamentarians and Assemblymen of Selangor.

Also present were representatives of Embassies, Heads of Government Departments, Members of the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) and leaders of the community.

This year’s celebration also provided stalls of small time entrepreneurs under the MIMBAR Microcredit Scheme which provided free food to the public.

Meanwhile, Abdul Khalid, in his speech, said that unity among the people in Selangor should be preserved for the sake of the state’s development in future.

“We live together in harmony, and this should be preserved,” said Abdul Khalid.

He said that the Christmas celebration is not different from any other celebration because it has become a day where various races in Selangor and Malaysia celebrate.

7.3

In the meantime, the celebration this year also provided contributions amounting to RM14,000 to be distributed to several selected charity organisations in Selangor.

This Christmas Day Celebration 2013 was jointly organised by the State Government, MBPJ, Tourism Selangor and Citta Mall.
