Selangor Spends RM1.93 Million to Fund the Poor People’s Health Programme

SHAH ALAM, 16 Apr: The State Government allocates RM500,000 annually to fund the Selangor People’s Health Assistance Programme, which is channelled to help the underprivileged and was implemented since 2009.

The Selangor Health Executive Councillor, Dr Daroyah Alwi, said that so far, the State Government has spent RM1.93 million for this purpose.

“Among the assistance provided are dialysis, cataract, minor surgeries and other treatments, as well as prosthetic legs.

“The State Government is more focused on this programme because it has been found to make an impact on the poor,” she said, replying to a question at the Selangor State Assembly (DNS) session today.

Statistics on the number of recipients has also shown an increase since the programme was first implemented, when in 2010, there was a total of 114 recipients with a payment of RM211,308 channelled and 201 recipients involving a payment of RM408,660 in 2011.

However, in 2012, there was a total of 255 people with a total payment of RM561,000 and in 2013, there was 298 recipients with a payment of RM611,823 channelled.

Meanwhile, until now, the State Government has spent RM129,780 to help fund health assistance for 61 recipients from the poor people in Selangor for this year.
