Alternative pools comply with raw water quality standards

SHAH ALAM, 17 June: The alternative pools identified to supply raw water to the consumers in Selangor and the Klang Valley comply with standards or water quality guidelines set by the Ministry of Health, Malaysia (MOH).

The Executive Councillor in charge of Youth and Sports, Infrastructure and Public Amenities, Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi, said that there are 15 parameters of heavy metals that need to be met and the results of the sampling analysis shows that all the parameters comply with the guidelines.

He said that the alternative pools have also been monitored regularly since 2011.

“Although it was revealed in the report that there are a lot of heavy metals, but we have performed analysis each year and it is now done regularly, and it complied with prescribed standards,” he said during the Selangor State Assembly session today.

Yunus said that based on analysis conducted, the State Government guarantees that the water channelled to consumers is safe and does not bring about long-term effects.

Yunus, also the Assemblyman for Sijangkang, said that the water from the reservoirs is also treated at Water Treatment Plants (WTP) and analysis proves that the water is safe for consumption.

“From the analysis carried out, we can guarantee that this water is safe and has no effect. However, we are open if anyone wants to conduct studies at related departments regarding the impact of mine water on consumers,” he said.
