Malaysia should begin moving OIC to provide immediate assistance to Gaza

SHAH ALAM, 12 Aug: The Malaysian Government should immediately start mobilising through the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) to urge Israel to stop the sanctions imposed on Palestine.

It is to ensure that access is open so that humanitarian aid and raw materials to rebuild Gaza can begin.

The Member of Parliament for Lembah Pantai, Nurul Izzah Anwar, said that Malaysia should begin measures to plan channelling humanitarian assistance for the benefit of the people of Gaza.

“The sanctions must be stopped to allow raw materials into Gaza to allow reconstruction works to begin.

“The OIC should also be responsible in ensuring that Israel is committed to maintaining peace and security in the region, not just for the people of Israel, but for all affected Palestinians,” she said in a press statement.

Nurul Izzah hopes that Malaysia will be vocal at the OIC Ministerial Meeting on Gaza scheduled today (August 12) in Jeddah which is also looking for solutions for other crisis including the Syrian issue, the issue of Boko Haram in Nigeria and also the violations happening in Iraq.

“Malaysia and the OIC must issue a statement to strongly condemn these widespread atrocities and for it to be stopped immediately.

“If the OIC keeps silent, it would give the perception that the OIC seems to not exist in the eyes of the world – and in fact allow injustice to continue,” said Nurul Izzah.
