BN makes Sedition Act as ‘bait’ to charge PR leaders, activists

SHAH ALAM, 11 Sept: Pakatan Rakyat (PR) leaders and political activists have been advised to be careful in issuing statements on various issues because it will be used as ‘bait’ by Barisan Nasional (BN) to charge them under the Sedition Act.

The Central PAS Youth Chief, Suhaizan Kayat, said that the trend of arresting using the Act has become more common recently and most of the cases happened a few years back before the 13th General Election (GE13).

He also believes that no action is being taken against racial sedition triggered by BN, and it is believed to be ignored by the authorities.

“The people witnessed racial sedition being triggered extremely by BN before the GE13, but I am certain that it has all been ignored.

“They are only interested on statements or individuals that want to interfere with any BN plans,” he said on Facebook.

Suhaizan said that the abuse of this Act will also continue to save the political survival of Umno and BN.

Meanwhile, on Twitter, the PKR Strategy Director, Rafizi Ramli, said that the scenario today reminds him of the mass detention under the Internal Security Act (ISA) in 2001 to 2002 and now the latest Sedition Act.

He said that BN probably made a mistake when they were of the opinion that the use of the Act will ‘kill’ certain parties from continuing to voice out and criticise the government leadership.

“It will no longer be effective one day when the people are no longer afraid for BN to use the Act of them.

“Continue (charging) because when one person is arrested, ten more will emerge and we will continue to fight,” he said.
