RM24.3 million MBPJ One-Way Project to overcome traffic congestion

PETALING JAYA, 10 Sept: The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) has taken the initiative to identify problems and take steps to overcome traffic congestion that often takes place around Petaling Jaya for the comfort of residents and motorists.

One of the initiatives being undertaken by MBPJ is the One-Way Project involving Jalan Utara, Jalan Timur, Jalan Barat, Jalan Sultan and Jalan Yong Shook Lin, Petaling Jaya.

The MBPJ Public Relations Unit said that the One-Way Project which is being undertaken involves 2 phases, where Phase 1 started in July 2014 to September 2014.

“Phase 1 involves the opening of roads at 8 locations, the felling of 38 trees, the transfer of trees and street painting.

“Meanwhile, for Phase 2, it involves road pavement, providing walkways and bicycle paths, installing street lights and cctv, and the installation of signage,” they said in a press statement.

MBPJ will also take into account the provision of separate walkways, bicycle paths, public bus services and also private vehicle pathways.

In addition to that, the implementation of this one-way street involves the planting of 4,970 new trees that are of then Bungor Langkawai species, mangrove trees and creepers.

“The cost of this project totals to RM23.8 million and will be funded through the Trust Fund Account.

“It is MBPJ’s intention for this project to be implemented successfully to ensure that the residents in Petaling Jaya can enjoy a comfortable life,” they said.
