SHAH ALAM, 24 Oct: If Indonesia has Joko Widodo (Jokowi) as the President of the republic country who has the image of a relaxed person and dressed like a normal citizen.
In Malaysia, the Chief Minister of Selangor, Mohamed Azmin, is called the Jokowi of Malaysia or Jokomin.
The comment was brought up on social media sites and many said that Mohamed Azmin’s move to leave behind the image of an elite to be more like the people should be continued.
“If Indonesia has Jokowi, we have Jokomin in Malaysia,” wrote Pisau Karat on Twitter.
Mohamed Azmin admitted that the turun padang (going down to the ground) programmes that he carried out every week is an inspiration from the President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi).
He said that Jokowi’s duties, which are in majority with the people compared to being in the office, will be applied in his administrative ways in Selangor.
“I know Bapak Jokowi and I visited him last year. Jokowi told me…Azmin, I spend only 20 percent of my time in the office, the rest is spent with the people.
“Yes, I want to imitate his ways, that is why I am committed to always be with the people and hear their grievances,” he said during the Sabak Bernam district morning assembly with the civil servants in Sungai Besar today.
Prior to this, Mohamed Azmin was seen as likening his work responsibilities with that of Jokowi’s.
Apart from being pictures on Twitter, Mohamed Azmin also imagined his work to be more of looking into the difficulties of the people in the state personally by going to the ground and feeling the people’s difficulties.
He personally obtained explanation from the responsible officers regarding an issue or problem and implements the solution in a quick manner.
Jokowi’s appointment previously gave new hope to the youth of Indonesia, which forms a large percentage of the republic’s population; surpassing 250 million people.
In his first speech, Jokowi personally invited everyone from the working class and appreciated the role of the plebeian class for the sake of Indonesia’s future.
Azmin was sworn in as the 15th Chief Minister of Selangor on September 23 in front of the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.
