CM: Local authorities should not be half-hearted in repairing roads, ensure quality work

SHAH ALAM, 10 Nov: The local authorities should be more responsible in spending provisions to repair roads according to the specifications set for the comfort and safety of motorists.

The Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, said that this is because he found that some local authorities seem half-hearted in the trust given.

“Some local authorities have begun work. Unfortunately, in my secretive survey, the work carried out seems half-hearted.

“I have personally contacted the YDPs of the several local authorities involved on why the quality of the roads being maintained is of low quality and not satisfactory,” he said.

Mohamed Azmin said this when speaking at the Selangor State Government Departments Monthly Assembly at the SUK Building today.

Prior to this, the state government divided the provisions of the Malaysian Road Records Information System (MARRIS) grant worth RM400 million to the 12 local authorities to pay for road reparations works in Selangor.

Mohamed Azmin also hopes through the provision, the road problems in Selangor can be overcome in the first three months as Chief Minister.

“While the state government provides support with a huge sum of fund for programmes like this, I do not want the quality of work given to be unsatisfactory.

“Local authorities should spend the provisions smartly, with trust and responsibility because if roads are not maintained correctly, it will affect the state and the people,” he said.
