“Failure to appreciate and accept the Koran by this group is the cause of sentiment fanatics and extremists.

“In this case, I pointed out that such sentiments will not have a place in the administration of Selangor as we practice principles of justice and moderation at all times,” he said.

Azmin said this when speaking at the Muslim Democrats World Conference Dinner at the One World Hotel, Bandar Utama, yesterday.

Also present was the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) de facto leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim; the Executive Director of the Policy Research Institute (IKD), Khalid Jaafar and the Saskawa Peace Foundation Chairman, Jiro Hanyu.

The Muslim Democrats World Conference which is held for two days from 3 to 4 November will feature a number of Muslim leaders and scholars.

The forum is organised by the Institute for Policy Research (IKD) in collaboration with the Saskawa Peace Foundation (SPF), the Indonesia Habibie Centre and the Turkey Foundation for Political, Economic and Social Research (SETA) which is expected to become a platform for Muslim leaders, intellectuals and professionals to voice progressive views on matters concerning freedom, democracy and justice.

Commenting further, Mohamed Azmin hopes that the involvement and participation of Muslim democrats and non-Muslims in the forum will build understanding, thus eliminating prejudice against Islam.

“The issues raised are not only important as subjects of discourse at high-level conferences such as this, but it involves matters that have a direct impact on the people.

“Hopefully this discourse will become a vehicle for the implementation of ‘tahalluf siyasi’ in this country,” he said.
