When will Johor follow Selangor and Penang in acknowledging the opposition?

SHAH ALAM, 17 Nov: The Johor government should follow in the steps of the Selangor and Penang governments in acknowledging the role of the Opposition Leader in the State Legislative Assembly (DUN).

The Assemblyman for Tangkak, Ee Chin Li, said that the Johor government should follow in the steps of the Penang Pakatan government which decided to provide annual provisions to BN Assemblymen in the state.

Ee raised that matter in a speech text for the Johor Budget 2015 debate yesterday.

He said that the Selangor government acknowledged the role of the Opposition Leader held by an Umno representative in Selangor’s DUN by implementing the Selangor State Opposition Leader Enactment.

“The Opposition Leader in Selangor receives a fixed allowance, driver allowance, secretary allowance, an official government car and other allowances like a state Exco,” he said, quoted from Malaysiakini.

In addition, Ee stressed that the Penang government also decided to provide annual provisions to Assemblymen from the Barisan Nasional party.

“When will the Johor government, which has always been proud of having the first State Constitution in Malaysia and also is a model for respective state constitutions, follow suit,” he asked.
