SHAH ALAM, 2 Dec: The Exco for Tourism, Environment, Green Technology and Consumer Affairs, Elizabeth Wong, disputed the decline in oil prices in Malaysia which is too low despite global oil prices falling sharply.

She said that various parties, especially the public and consumer organisations, are also questioning the significant differences regarding the movement of oil prices in Malaysia which is not in line with world oil prices.

“The price of diesel has dropped, but why has it gone up for us despite there not being a subsidy? The drop in world prices s very sharp, but the decline in petrol (here) is only by a little.

“We ask for an explanation from the federal government and hope that the price will not be fixed once a month only, but there needs to be daily or weekly monitoring,” she said during the Selangor State Assembly session today.

The retail price of RON97 has gone down by nine cents per litre to RM2.46 cents per litre and the retail price of RON95 has gone down by four cents per litre to RM2.26 per litre, effective December 1.

Meanwhile, the retail price of diesel has gone up by three cents per litre to RM2.23 per litre.

Previously, the retail price of RON97 was RM2.55 per litre, RON95 was at RM2.30 per litre and RM2.20 litre for diesel.
