CM: MMKN rejects MBPJ’s 3-month bonus proposal

SHAH ALAM, 4 Mar: The State Government Executive Council (MMKN) today rejected the proposal by the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) to give the 2014 Council Performance Special Bonus of three-month’s pay to council members and their staff.

The Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, said that however, MMKN agreed with a bonus of a month’s salary for MBPJ employees, subject to strict conditions of a comprehensive performance evaluation.

He said that the MMKN will provide stringent guidelines for all local authorities to ensure the principles of transparency and accountability in financial management.

“Local authorities are responsible for appreciating establishments that are oriented on service for the people.

“Local authorities are asked to adhere to the state government policy that was previously decided, in line with Section 10 (9) of the Local Government Act 1072,” said Mohamed Azmin in a press statement.

He said that the increase in revenue was contributed through the people’s payment of taxes to local authorities to obtain the best services and cannot be viewed as business profit.

Revenue collection and reserves should be managed with prudence and returned to the people through quality development and efficient service.

This includes clear customer charters, good and comfortable maintenance, garbage and solid waste management that is efficient and guarantees a clean and safe environment.

“Local authorities need to explore and invest in new services sectors to improve the quality or urban living,” he said.
