CM: Water MOU to be finalised soon if Central Government does not violate terms

SHAH ALAM, 30 Mar: The Selangor water industry restructuring agreement can be finalised immediately on condition that the Federal Government does not budge from the spirit and principles in the main agreement signed.

The Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, said that he hopes that this can be carried out in the near future because at the state government level, discussions were already held last Monday for this purpose.

He said that the state government will hold a meeting with the Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water, Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili, as soon as possible to resolve this effort.

“It is understood that he is outside Kuala Lumpur, in Sabah, for the next few days and once he returns from Sabah, I will set a date as soon as possible,” he told reporters after the Selangor State Assembly (DNS) adjourned today.

Mohamed Azmin said that the state government is committed to finalising the water industry agreement in the interests of the people and consumers in the Klang Valley.

He said that it is as decreed by the Sultan of Selangor to insist on maintaining the sovereignty of Selangor.

“It is the principle of the state government that all agreements signed must be respected by both parties and not politicised,” he said.
