SPECIAL REPORT: Rent on rent, state government raids PPRs

SHAH ALAM, 5 Mar: The state government takes the irresponsibility of local tenants who rent out their units to foreigners seriously.

The Exco for Housing, Building Management and Urban Life, Datuk Iskandar Samad, said that he will ask the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) and the Selangor Housing and Property Board (LPHS) to raid all People’s Housing Project (PPRs) following the attitude of profiting on wind.

He said that some local resident’s units were seized because they were practicing ‘rent on rent’ previously.

“This included PPRs under two administrations, Kota Damansara, Hicom and Serdang, under the Selangor Housing and Property Board. Also, Lembah Subang under MBPJ. I will ask MBPJ and the Housing Board to perform surprise operations.

“Indeed, some have already been removed due to rent on rent,” he said when contacted by Selangor Kini.

He said that the state government will act decisively in these cases and regrets the irresponsibility of a handful of local tenants who are taking advantage.

“These are rental homes and cannot be sold. There are four projects, namely in Kota Damansara, Lembah Subang, Hicom and Serendah.

“These houses cannot be rented to foreigners. Tenants also cannot rent to others.

“In the event of rent on rent, the lease contract will be cancelled immediately. The state government will offer it to tenants who are renting from the original tenant,” he said.
