BN Assemblyman asks government to clarify why the water MOU issue is not yet finalised

SHAH ALAM, 2 Apr: The state government should provide clarification on the agreement with Syarikat Pengeluar Air Sungai Selangor Sdn Bhd (Splash) which has not yet been finalised.

Sulaiman Abdul Razak (BN-Permatang) said that the RM2.8 billion sum for the acquisition of the company is being disputed because it is considered high.

In fact, he said that an explanation regarding the sum stated should be done if it is indeed true because it involved public money.

“Why is such a long time being taken when other companies that are bigger such as the Selangor Water Supply Company Sdn Bhd (Syabas), which is said to be a BN crony, has already completed and the agreement was finalised with RM1.55 billion,” he questioned.

Sulaiman said this to reporters at the Selangor State Assembly (DNS) lobby today.

He said that he hopes that the state government can finalise the agreement with Splash in addition to not allowing the company to become a private concession.

“If this happens, there will be no meaning to the agreement which has been fought for all this while.

“Similarly with the water share that was hyped up by the former Chief Minister (Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim) previously. Will this be continued and given to the people,” he asked.

Commenting further, Sulaiman said that the spirit for the water restructuring, which was agreed with the Federal Government, should be in a win-win situation.

“The state government has the right to restructure the water (industry) while the central government gets the water rights and to give it to the people, and also for the Langat 2 project to be continued. It is a win-win situation,” he said.
