Horas 600 successfully supplies 160 MLD of raw water per day

SHAH ALAM, 9 Apr: The Hybrid Off-River Augmentation System (Horas) 600 successfully supplies 160 million litres of raw water per day since April 2014 even though it is not fully completed, said the Exco for Infrastructure and Public Amenities, Zaidy Abdul Talib.

He said that it will be able to accommodate additional raw water requirements of 300 million litres a day (MLD) for the Mitigation 2 project when the project is fully completed in September.

“If this Horas 600 did not exist, Selangor would have faced a shortage of raw water from January to March.

“The success of the Mitigation 2 project is important to increase the capability to produce treated water at the SSP1, SSP3 and Rasah water treatment plants,” he said during the winding-up session at the Selangor State Assembly today.

Horas 600 is a stormwater harvesting method and groundwater is discharged directly to the Sungai Selangor Basin through the Off-River Storage (ORS) and the Horizontal Collector Well which is located at Kampung Sungai Darah, Bestari Jaya, Kuala Selangor.

It plays a major role in reducing excessive reliance on a single raw water source, thus guaranteeing continuous supply to over seven million water consumers in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.

The RM405 million project will be partially financed in contra with the sand value produces by Kumpulan Semesta Sdn Bhd (KSSB), estimated at RM100 million.

KSSB was appointed by the state government through the State Economic Planning Unit (UPEN) as the contractor responsible for dredging the 166 hectare reservoir with a depth of 23.5 metres from the ground level.
