All victims of the GST regardless of race

BUKIT MERTAJAM, 3 May: The Chief Minister of Penang, Lim Guan Eng, said that the statement by the MCA Women’s Chief, Datuk Heng Seai Kie, that Malays pay more GST compared to Chinese is far from reality and racist.

Guan Eng said that the implementation of the GST has an impact on all races who are affected by price increases.

“Everyone is taxed the GST, regardless of skin colour. Whoever buys goods, regardless of being Malay, Chinese, Indian, Ibanese, Kadazan, are all charged the GST. Perhaps only expensive haircuts are not charged the GST.

“MCA is playing with racism among the Chinese and Umno is playing racism among Malays,” said Guan Eng during a press conference here at Wat Siam Kampung Tanah Liat today.

He explained that the race trick used by Umno and MCA is a loss to the people and does not help in the country’s development.
