CM: PR unanimously chose Wan Azizah

KUALA LUMPUR, 18 May: Pakatan Rakyat’s (PR) decision to elect the Permatang Pauh Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, as the new Opposition Leader is based on her leadership qualities and experience.

The Chief Minister of Selangor, Mohamed Azmin Ali, said that Dr Wan Azizah had also previously led the opposition team in Parliament.

“It was a decision reached by all members of PR because we believe in the dignity and stature of Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah and she had also previously served as the Opposition Leader.

“Of course with her breadth of experience, she is able to continue this duty.

“I believe that she can take up this task effectively, especially when we are facing a variety of issues and debates in Parliament,” he told reporters at the Parliament lobby today.

Prior to this, the Speaker, Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia, declared Dr Wan Azizah as the new Opposition Leader in the Dewan Rakyat.

The declaration was made after she was sworn in as the Permatang Pauh Member of Parliament.
